While visiting in Amherst take the time to visit some of our local attractions. The Bird Sanctuary is a great place to go for a hike or leisurely stroll where 200 different species of birds and waterfowl are known to be seen. You'll also want to visit the Cumberland County Museum and other magnificent museums to learn about the history of Amherst and surrounding areas. Don't forget to visit our beaches which are only a short drive away and the water is the warmest north of the Carolinas. If site seeing is of interest then take a tour of the Underground Mines in Springhill, Fort Beausejour which was built in 1751 or maybe walk along the Fundy shore. The Confederation Bridge is located about 30 minutes from Amherst. It joins New Brunswick to Prince Edward Island and is the largest bridge over salt water in the world.
