Wharekauhau (pronounced forry-coe-hoe) was named New Zealand's best boutique hotel and lodge at the 1999 and 2001 New Zealand Tourism Awards. It was also awarded Andrew Harpers Grand Award for 1998. After extensive and sympathetic development, and continuing its tradition of true New Zealand hospitality, Wharekauhau offers its guests 12 well appointed suites. Situated on a working sheep station of over 5000 acres, it overlooks 16 miles of stunning coastal scenery, black volcanic sand beaches, green pastures, deer forests and cloud capped peaks.
