Fox Glacier is set in an area of outstanding beauty on the west coast of NZ South Island.
Situated in a quiet central Fox Glacier township location, it is an easy walking distance to local restaurants and cafes.
Fox Glacier is the largest and longest of the West Coast Glaciers, grinding its way from the heart of the Southern Alps down into temperate rainforest just 12km from the Tasman Sea. There are excellent views of New Zealands's highest peaks, Aoraki and Mt Tasman from Fox township.
Nearby Lake Matheson is renowed for its reflections of New Zealand's highest mountains. Lake Matheson has an excellent walking track around it for all fitness levels. Fox Glacier has a rich variety of walks for all levels, including the glacier valley walk that takes you to the terminal face of this icy giant.
