| This impressive palace, with 870 windows, 240 balconies, 44 sets of stairs and 110 doors is, beyond any doubt, worth a visit. It covers an area of 135,000 square metres, the same of the old Alcazar of the Hapsburgs, which in the Christmas of 1734 was destroyed by a fire. Four years later, during the reign of Ferdinand VI, its reconstruction began according to the project drawn by Juan Bautista Sachetti, with the collaboration of Ventura Rodriguez, Sabatini, and Father Scirmiento. This time wood was used only for the doors, not even the ceiling of the vaults is flammable. |

| This square was built between 1617 and 1619, under Philip III, who wanted to give additional prestige to his kingdom. The buildings are mostly Renaissance in style and in the centre there is a statue of the king, made by Giovanni da Bologna and Pietro Tacca. During the 17th century this square hosted theatre performances and bullfights and served as a meeting-point for the "Gremios", the associations of craftsmen of that time. In 1790 Plaza Mayor was almost completely destroyed by a fire, and was rebuilt later-on. |

| How to get: |
From the airport head towards Feria de Madrid. Take the M-14/N-100 in the direction of Zaragoza, take exit 12 and continue for 340 metres. In Madrid take the exit at Avenida de America and then the A-2 for approximately six kilometres. Take exit 4a for Valencia and continue on the M-30 until the exit for Calle Alcala. Continue to Plaza de la Independienca and turn left at the Paseo del Prado. Turn right in Carrera de San Jeronimo and then left at Plaza de las Cortes. Continue down Calle del Prado and the hotel is on Plaza de Santa Ana. |
