Known for having one of the largest National Historic Landmark Districts in the United States, Savannah, Georgia, is a majestic port city with a notable history and an exciting future. The military played an important role in Savannahs economic history and continues to do so today. Hunter Army Airfield and Fort Stewart are home to the 3rd Infantry Division. Combined, the installations are the Armys Premier Power Projection Platform on the Atlantic Coast, capable of deploying diverse forces such as heavy armored units or the elite troops of the 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment. Given that its just four miles away, Extended Stay America ? Savannah ? Midtown Hotel is a popular choice for those looking for a hotel near Fort Stewart or Hunter Army Airfield. Two major private employers in Savannah are International Paper Company and Gulfstream Aerospace Company. Thanks to an abundance of forest, much of the American Southeast played an important role in development of the pulp and paper industry.
