John Mayne, to capture the setting?s unique feeling of space and light,
Whare Kea appears to float above the water allowing guests to enjoy the
magnificent location in an intimate atmosphere. Whare Kea can be booked
exclusively for those who wish to ensure their privacy, or can be booked
on a room basis for those who enjoy meeting other guests from around the
globe.
A new and unique offering exclusive to guests of Whare Kea Lodge is the
opportunity to enjoy an overnight stay at our luxurious, high alpine
Chalet. Accessed via a scenic helicopter flight from the front lawn of the
Whare Kea Lodge, the Chalet is located high in the Buchanan mountain range
beside the Mt. Aspiring National Park. Enjoying direct sunlight all day
from its north facing location, guests are afforded stunning views of Mt.
Cook on the north east horizon to Mt. Aspiring on the west. The Chalet is
a true extension of the luxury and comfort of Whare Kea Lodge and was
conceived to maximise the breathtaking views without impacting on its
environment. The Chalet comprises two double guest bedrooms, living
areas, bathroom and sun deck. The Chalet?s sustainable design excellence
was recognised when Whare Kea received the Relais & Chateaux Environmental
Award in 2004. A personal host and mountain guide are provided to ensure
your stay at the Chalet is unrivalled in comfort and safety. |

Wanaka Airport ? WKADistance from Whare Kea Lodge: 15.7kmDirections: Make your way out of Wanaka airport, turn right on Statehighway 6, into Wanaka Township. Whare Kea Lodge is located 5.6km from theCentre of the Wanaka Township along Mt Aspiring Road, which is found byfollowing the lake side road towards Glendhu Bay. Just out of town youwill notice Rippon Vineyard on the right side of the road. Continue pastRippon Vineyards for approximately 1.2kms. You will then see two houses atthe top of the hill, a new house on the left and an older cottagesurrounded by pine trees on the right. Continue past these houses forapproximately another 500 metres. You will then see a large gum tree onthe right and directly after that a post and rail fence and stone gateway,which is signposted ?Whare Kea Lodge?. Please note this is not highlyvisible as we are a private exclusive lodge. Turn right into the drivewayand continue the full length of the gravel road (please be aware of anactive air field) |
