Albabenshal is spectacularly set outside the jagged ruins of Old Shali, a 13th century citadel in the center of downtown Siwa. Ancient, dilapidated Siwan homes were restored using kershef, a mixture of sun-dried salt, mud and sand, to build the lodge modeled after the original structures that once filled the fortress. Albabenshal offers guests 11 rooms on three levels connected through alleyways and terraces overlooking the center of the town on one side and the fantastic ruins of the fortress on the other. On the main terrace, Albabenshal Restaurant serves a menu of Siwan traditional dishes adapted to more modern tastes. Dishes include a range of dishes such as Curcuma Rice, Shakshouka , and One Thousand Leaf Fetir.
