The hotel/ opened anew in March 2012/ is situated right in the heart of the town of Waidhofen an der Thaya/ right next to the historical town wall. Despite this/ it enjoys a very quiet location. A brief historical review The restaurant known as Zum goldenen Ochsen was located in a building situated at Hauptplatz 25 from the 15th century. At the time of the big town fire in 1873/ which destroyed most of the town center and/ with it/ the restaurant Zum goldenen Ochsen/ Rudolf Riegler and his wife Amalie managed the restaurant as an inn as well as running a farm. Following her husbands death/ Amalie married Friedrich Engelmayer from Parisdorf/ Weinviertel. This marriage produced two daughters/ Valerie and Amalie. In 1925/ Amalie and her husband Robert Eder took over the running of the restaurant/ which was duly enlarged and modernised. Following the billeting of the Russian military governor between 1945 and 1947/ the Eder family had to start again from scratch/ and went back to horse and cattle breeding to get them throu

Following the death of Amalie Eder in 1949/ Robert Eder married the daughter of a wine-grower from Strass in Strassertal in the early 1950s. After two years of marriage/ Robert Eder died/ and his widow Maria ran the inn with her step-daughter Edith and her husband Dr Karl Heindl. The building was extended and another storey added in 1961-62. In 1976/ Edith and her husband took over the running of the establishment until they died suddenly in an accident in 1999.
