About Hotel Plaza Grande

The Hotel Plaza Grande rises above Quitos central square known as the Plaza de la Independencia. It was one of the first hotels ever constructed in the capital and has been extensively renovated and remodeled to become the finest boutique hotel in the city. It is the ideal place from which to explore the wonders of this timeless city. Quito was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978 thanks to its historic center which is the largest and best preserved in Latin America. The space presently occupied by the Boutique Hotel Plaza Grande was originally the house of Juan Diaz de Hidalgo erected at the same time as the founding of the city of Quito at the beginning of the sixteenth century. This legendary building of eclectic architecture which at the time broke with the homogeneity of the settlements colonial houses enjoys a unique location it sits on one side of the historic heart of Quitos main square boasting impressive views of the Government Palace the Cathedral the cupolas of colonial-era churches City Hall and the Panecillo hill.
