The hotel is located adjacent to the Midfjardara river in Midfji??rdur, midway between Reykjavi??k and Akureyri. Midfjardara is one of Iceland's best salmon rivers. Laugarbakki is a village with a population of about 80. The hotel site was formerly known as Langafit; according to the Saga of Grettir, horsefights took place here in olden times. At Hvammstangi (10 km from the hotel) is a 25-metre swimming pool with hot tubs. There are also hot tubs at Laugarbakki (1 km from the hotel). Hot springs at Laugarbakki provide enough hot water to heat the community of Hvammstangi; the hot water is also used to heat greenhouses at Laugarbakki. The community has a sports hall that is ideal for large functions, hot tubs, a camping site, a community centre and a food store.
