About Alam Sari, Keliki

In Indonesian alam sari means 'natural essence' and that's what alam sari wants its guests to experience. We not only want our guests to experience it, we are committed in many other ways to preserving the natural, cultural and social environment of Bali. At alam sari we have used the natural products of Bali and Indonesia wherever possible - natural rubber mattresses on our beds, handwoven Balinese cotton for our furnishing fabrics, Indonesian batiks and teak furniture, bamboo and lontar palm leaf lamp shades, coconut wood pillars and original Indonesian antique furniture and works of art make our decor uniquely Indonesian. Our gardens overflow with glorious tropical plants, flowers and trees of every sort. We treat our waste in ways that do not pollute the environment. Our waste water is treated in an imported Eco-system that breaks waste down biologically thus ensuring no waste water or solids go to ground or pollute the environment. In fact the treated water is used on our gardens. Waste food is given to local farmers as animal food, bottles, paper and plastic are recycled wherever possible and other waste is disposed of responsibly. Our water is solar heated, we use no aerosol sprays, we use gas in our kitchen and no MSG or other artificial flavourings are used in our cooking. Much of our furniture is made from kaji mas timber which grows on the Indonesian island of Sumbawa. There it grows rapidly in the managed tropical forest whose concessionaire responsibly mills 6000 trees per year and replants many more so the resource is sustainably harvested and responsibly managed. We employ on our permanent staff many people from nearby villages and in addition the live music played and traditional massages offered are provided by local villagers who also sell us some of the fresh fruit and vegetables we use. We encourage you to use local villagers to escort you on your walks or rides around the village and to buy the local craft items they make including the exquisite miniature paintings that Keliki and its surrounding villages are famous for.
