The UNA Hotel Palace is a prestigious building dating back to the early 1900s, in the hearth of Catania, was already a historical luxury hotel. The restoration project has been carried out with the view of maintaining the Sicilian style and traditional cultural heritage. The colour of the facade is the same as that of the most important historical buildings in Catania: the dark grey of the sand that comes from Mount Etna, with the added interest of ground red bricks, which highlight the surface, framed in the white stone of Comiso, used for the pilasters and window cornices. The facade reflects the elegance and tradition of the city, while the discovery of the unusual and surprising interior follows. There are a total of 97 rooms, of which 7 are two-floor suites, and on the whole are spacious and have an air of open and refined Mediterranean simplicity. Again, here, white is the dominating basic colour: macrame curtains, which let through the rays of the sun, white beds which have a comfortable bedstead of soft pillows and more curtains on the opposite wall where the television hangs like a technological picture. These are the only fixed pieces of furniture. The rest is made up of amusing new versions of classic furniture; a desk/table, a bench/suitcase rest and a mirror which is also a window onto the courtyard. Even the wardrobe is a white curtain, hemmed in fine leather and the inside of the wardrobe is made of dark wood and contains all that is useful and necessary, a chest of drawers, a mini-bar and a safe. The 7 suites are splendid rooms on two floors joined by a monumental staircase. Rooms overlooking the central courtyard have a particularly attractive view; the north wall, covered in evergreen plants, contrasts pleasantly with the pane glass the lifts, which bustle with people all day, and the courtyard of the second floor, treated like a typical Sicilian square and which is not accessible to the public in order to maintain the privacy of rooms on lower floors. The meeting rooms on the second floor have the sobriety of great Sicilian halls, with a contemporary note through the choice, vary in size and can accommodate from 7 to 200 delegates. Please note that as of 1st January 2012 a City Tax will be introduced in the city of Catania. This will be a fixed stay contribution for all the Client staying in the City of Catania. The contribution for 4 stars hotels is 1.50 EUR per person per day- up to a maximum of 3 consecutive nights. This tax is to be payable direct to hotel on check in/out.
