Cave Bianche Hotel is located in Favignana, one of the small islands of the Egadis Archipelago -western Sicily. Favignana is characterized by beaches and bays which are really evocative, among them the Cala Azzurra (blue bay) a small sandy bay, Cala Rossa (red bay) a small rocky bay and the large sandy beach of the Lido Burrone. Favignana is also characterized by beautiful grottos like The Grotta Azzurra (blue grotto) so named thanks to the blue colour of its sea-water, The Grotta degli Innamorati, the lovers cove, for the presence of two identical rocks and finally the Grotta dei Sospiri, the cove of sighs, which lets its moanings out when the sea is rough. Favignanas history is tied with the rise and fall of the Florio family who established a tuna station on the island and the ancient tradition of mattanza, a complex and ritual way of tuna fishing which can still be admired in May. The Egadis Archipelago includes the islands of Favignana, Levanzo and Marettimo, along with the two tiny isles of Formica and Maraone. Shaped like a triangle, Levanzo is smaller than Favignana and Marettimo. It has an extension of less than six square kilometres and a coastal line of less than fifteen kilometres. Very few people are living in Levanzo at any time due to the proximity of Sicily and the lack of water and land resources. Even the actual village dates back just to 1850. Before that time, people simply lived in the several coves of the island. On the northern side of the island there is a genuine, large cove in the rock where several prehistoric graffiti and paintings can be admired. Discovered in 1949,they are characterized by their accuracy and for this reason offer an emotional experience. Their beauty can be compared to the famous graffiti paintings of Altamura.
