After a long renovation that lasted five years an old Palace dated back to XV century has been converted into a superb Luxury Hotel. Palazzo Gattini was inaugurated on 28th of June 2008. The Palace once belonged to Conti Gattini,one of the IX century noblest families in Matera. After being a noble Residency in XVIII century, Palazzo Gattini was converted into a Convent and today, one of our Junior Suites has a Renaissance Door that links the Palace with a Pontiff Curia. Architect Ettore Mocchetti has been appointed as internal designer for Palazzo Gattini renovation. He has wisely used local materials to modify the Palaces original structure. Cream is the dominant colour at the Hotel, because cream is the colour of chalky stone prevailing in Matera landscape and the majority of the houses are built using this type of stones. The furniture colours go from black to cream and grey, but every room features marvellous silk draperies which can vary from orange, blue, mustard and green. Palazzo Gattini offers 20 luxury rooms, 10 Deluxe rooms,4 Junior Suite and 6 Suite, one of which has a private swimming pool on the adjoining terrace with enchanting views over the Sassi district. The Hotel has also a prestigious Wine Bar situated in the old wine cellars and a spectacular cheese room where the nobles used to sharpen the cheese, which has now become a special showcase of Lucania region. The Hotel has a restaurant where you can taste the local traditional cusine, where high attention is given to the quality of the products used. The Meeting room situated in an ancient desecrated church can accommodate up to 50 delegates. The Wellness Centre created in one of the oldest parts of the complex offers a Hammam, the swimming pool located in a older cistern with Jacuzzi bunks and different rooms for body beauty treatments and Ayurvedic massages.
