Former summer residence for the Gargiulo family, La Tonnarella is now a delightful hotel preserving the fascinating period atmosphere, antique furnishing and ceramic tiles. The large, panoramic restaurant overlooking the blue sea allures guests in tasting delicacies of the Mermaids Land following well-selected recipes and using only freshly caught fish. La Tonnarella Hotel has its own private beach sheltered among the rocks equipped with parasols and deck chairs. On this secluded small beach you have the opportunity to enjoy your lunch immersed in nature at only a few meters from the crystal clear sea water.

Perched high above the Bay of Naples, with exceptional views of Vesuvius, Naples and Ischia, Sorrento lies in an area of great natural beauty. It is a busy, welcoming place with particularly good road, rail and sea links. Sorrento is an ideal base from with to explore the magnificent Sorrentine peninsula and the Amalfi Coast with its delightful little towns, such as Positano, Amalfi and Ravello, tumbling down to the sea to the west, while to the east the major archaeological sites of Pompeii, Herculanium and Oplontis are only a short train journey away. Whether its sitting in Piazza Tasso sipping a cup of coffee while looking over the gorge and out to sea, or wandering the characteristic little lanes, Sorrento is an attractive place to spend your time. What the town may lack in terms of conventional *sites* is more than made up for in magnificent panoramic views and tranquil secluded corners. The 14th-century church of San Francesco still has a peaceful flower-filled cloister with crisply carved, interlaced arches typical of this area of Campania. While there is a small beach at the old port, and some of the hotels have a private beaches at the foot of precipitous cliffs, it is the relaxed atmosphere, the splendid views and its proximity to so many other delightful towns and villages which makes Sorrento and its surroundings such a pleasant place to stay.
