Amanohashidate/ meaning Bridge of Heaven is a sandbar 3.6 kilometers in length/ created by sand laved over from the Noda River and the Sea of Japan. It is renowned as one of three prominent beauty spots in Japan. Its colonnade of some 8/000 Japanese black pines has been chosen for inclusion in both the Top 100 Routes in Japan and the Top 100 Pine Stands in Japan Legend of old called it a floating bridge created when a ladder/ built for earthly descents by the mythological gods/fell from their heaven. Ryokan Genmyoan is on the Sea of Japan in the north part of Kyoto Prefecture about 120 kilometers from Kyoto City. Trains from Kyoto Station or Osaka Station take just over two hours to nearby Amanohashidate Station.
