Hotel ?t Klooster is located in the Punda area of Willemstad. Punda is the oldest quarter of Willemstad, the capital of Curacao. Originally the area was called De Punt (in Dutch) which translated to Punta in Papiamentu and than in slang language to Punda. Punda is situated east of the St Anna bay and together with Otrobanda, west of St Anna Bay, it forms the historical down town area of Willemstad. The 18th century buildings at the Handelskade, the cay located at the St Anna Bay are popular spots for photographers. Punda is the most important shopping area of Willemstad and also accommodates different musea. Another attraction in Punda is the Mikvi?? Israel-Emanuel Synagogue from 1732, the oldest synagogue in the western hemisphere which still is in use. Connected to the synagogue is a Jewish museum. Punda also hosts the Post Museum and the of the Protestant church.
