Pattaya lies on the east coast of the Gulf of Thailand - approximately 140 kms from Bangkok. This resort city is divided into four major zones: North Pattaya - Central Pattaya - South Pattaya and Jomtien. Pattaya has three major roads running parallel to each other. The Beach Road runs along the beachfront one-way from north to south. Pattaya 2 Road is about 100 meters away - partly one-way south to north and partly two-way. Sukhumvit Road is a continuation of the main highway from Bangkok. The major roads are linked by narrow lanes. Pattaya 2 Road continues through South Pattaya - over the headland where the Royal Cliff Beach Resort and PEACH are located - and on to Jomtien Beach. On the other side of Sukhumvit Road are several country clubs - golf courses and typical rural villages - as well as the railway from Bangkok. Pattaya's public transport is provided by customized pickup trucks - known as song taew - with 2 rows on seats in the back for 8-10 passengers. If not occupied - they can also be hired as private taxis. Alternatively - air-conditioned taxis are everywhere and easy to hail.
