It is located on the edge of the South Downs During the 18th and 19th centuries, Rottingdean was a smugglers village - a time recalled by Rudyard Kiplings A Smugglers Song, If you wake at midnight, and hear horses feet, Do not go drawing back the blind, or looking in the street... Five and twenty ponies, trotting through the dark - Brandy for the Parson, Baccy for the Clerk. Today the hotel is a favourite holiday location. A good base for exploring the South Coast and surrounding area only a few miles away from Saltdean, Peacehaven. Well served by the M25, M23 Gatwick and A27, the White Horse Hotel is conveniently placed for all that Brighton has to offer, including the famous Lanes, the Palace Pier and the Marina. Head south on the M23 to the A23 then take the A27 towards Lewes. At the Falmer/University interchange take the B2123 to Rottingdean. The hotel is straight ahead on the seafront.
