About George Hotel
Directly opposite the railway station in the heart of Huddersfield this beautifully preserved classic Victorian railway hotel is known around the world as the birthplace of Rugby League. Originally built in 1851 the George Hotel has been carefully preserved as an elegant Grade II listed building. In 1895 the building played host to the meeting that founded Rugby League Football. Within the hotel itself is the UKs only Rugby League heritage museum which, houses memorabilia and great artifacts from the game. Galpharm Stadium home to Huddersfield Giants Rugby League Football Club and Huddersfield Town Football Club is less than a mile away. The hotel is situated on the main square in the very centre of town. All of Huddersfields shops restaurants, bars and museums are within easy walking distance.
