About Grand Scarborough
The Britannia Grand Hotel has dominated Scarborough's South Bay since 1867, being the brainchild of a group of businessmen whose object was to build a magnificent hotel that would attract an affluent clientele. When acquiring the land on which to build the hotel, some properties had to be demolished, one of which being Wood Lodging where the Bronte sisters had stayed. The hotel has been designed around the theme of time, envisaging four towers for the seasons, twelve floors for the months, 52 chimneys for the weeks and 365 rooms for the days. The Grand Hotel is the largest brick-building in Europe, being built of approximately six million bricks. The hotel has a fantastic cliff top position with views across the whole bay and golden sands. Curtrently undergoing a 7m refurbishment programme
