Whitley Hall is an ivy-clad 16th century mansion, located within tranquil grounds of the large surrounding estate, north of Sheffield. The grounds rise around the picturesque house and are planted with fine oaks and other mature trees. Peacocks, Canadian geese, mallards and squirrels grace the gardens, which also include two small lakes. However, the Hotel is within easy reach of Sheffield city centre, Meadowhall and other surrounding local areas making it ideal shopping, attending business functions and sampling the local attractions. The building itself takes up three sides of a large square that once formed a paved courtyard. The central gateways ivy covered pillars are still in existence at the end of the lawn. The recently opened Parker wing offers rooms of the very highest standard, all of which have Juliet balconies including four deluxe bedrooms with lake views. Whitley Hall has a rich history, as the ill-fated Mary Queen of Scots was believed to have stayed here whilst in the custody of the Earl of Shrewsbury at Sheffield Castle.
