About La Maison Bleue Batha
La Maison Bleue is a traditional Moroccan residence built in 1915 by the Abbadi family, who are originally from Andalusia and who still own the house. By staying here you will be, first and foremost, the guests of a prominent Fassi family in their own home. A haven of peace in the heart of Fez Medina, La Maison Bleue is a place of serenity and regeneration. The architecture of the house is typically Fassi. The walls are covered with intricate Zellij mosaic tiling, the blue symbolising the ancient city, while the green represents the colour of Islam. The grandeur of Andalusia is evident throughout. The detail of the elaborately carved wooden doors, antique stained-glass windows, carved plaster and painted wood ceilings provide a feast for the senses. A central courtyard is surrounded by three majestic salons, where the sumptuous fabrics and hand-picked antiquities lend the rooms a royal ambiance unparalleled in the old city. This is the setting for the restaurant, where our renowned chefs will prepare for you the finest Moroccan cuisine. Feast on slow-cooked beef or chicken tagines, fluffy couscous with raisins and flaky almond-stuffed pastilla, served by waiters in traditional costume and accompanied by Andalusian and Gnaoua musicians. La Maison Bleue is located within the ancient walled city of Medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. La Maison Bleue is a palace built in 1356 of the Hegira -1915-. It is the ancestral home of the late Si Mohammed El Abbadi, prominent astrologer, famous judge and professor at Qaraouiyines University. Abbadies from our time are from Andalucia and in the intellectual arm Morocco, are still there. A rare library belonging to the late Si Mohammed, scientist and famous judge, will only remember the greatness and knowledge that flourished in this house.
